After a pleasant stroll the King returns to find his Castle under attack and his Queen in danger. Help the King navigate through the perils of the collapsing Castle and save his Queen.
After working on so many different plat-formers, I have finally released one. ’60 Seconds to Save the Queen’ is an accumulation of everything I have learned from my experiments with plat-formers over the years. This game uses the flixel engine, which gave me more time to focus on what I was going to do instead of how I was going to do it. I spent over 2 weeks designing, testing, and redesigning each level so they were each a unique challenge that could be mastered over time. My initial inspiration was from a game called Queens by Noonat, but I mainly drew from Mario and Mega Man for most of the development. There are some things I know I could have done better, but thats what sequels are for.
If you haven’t already, give ’60 Seconds to Save the Queen’ a try.
First off, wow! I haven’t update this blog in over a year. That needs to change.
I have a list of things I am working on this summer and all of it involves games. It all starts with a game releasing this week. I will post about it as soon as it uploaded to its sponsors site. Then I have an iPhone game that I have had ready for release for some time now. I just have to submit it to Apple and wait for their approval. There is more in the works for both Flash games and iPhone games, and I’ll announce them throughout summer.
I’m also going to be making some changes slowly to this site. I have already updated my WordPress blog to a custom theme. But, I’ll be changing it eventually since I’m only half satisfied with it. There is a flash version of this site in the works. The plan is to eventually have the main site be in Flash and have an alternate version of the site be in a WordPress format. I also have a few other things I am working on for the site, but my main focus right now is the flash version.
Before I forget, I have added my latest games to the games section. More update to come
The iPhone version of open Doors 2 is moving along. I seem to be having good days and bad days with it. I haven’t developed in C for a few years and I’ve forgotten how picky it can be. I guess I’ve gotten comfortable with how lax AS2 is. The game is looking good though. It’s was a spitting image of the Flash version, back when I could compile it successfully.
I decided to revive some old projects of mine. I have a folder full of them, unfinished and half-made. It’s always some design flaw that prevents me from moving forward with them. I can be a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to my games. So if one thing doesn’t work just right, I tend to suppend everything until it does. Though I am working on coming up with solutions faster when in that situation. Anyways, I’ll be working on some of those old projects flash while I work on the iPhone version of OD2. There’s a platform-puzzler that needed a different look, two action-adventure games that were way too ambitious, a tactical shooter that was genre confused, and a few puzzle games that I couldn’t find a place for.
I know I’ve been neglecting the site. I’ll be working on that too this week. Hopefully I can get a nice custom theme together and up, instead of the default theme I have now. Thanks to everyone that made suggestions for the site. I’ve been listening, and I’ll get back to those who asked by tomorrow.
I’ve been keeping busy these past few weeks. Since the Flash Gaming Summit and releasing Open Doors 2, I’ve been spending a lot of time writing and replying emails. They’ve been slowing though, and I’ve started to limit the amount of time I spend on them. I’ve also been working hard on getting the iPhone version of OD2 finished. Learning Cocoa and Objective-C has been interesting. I’m still getting use to how things work, but I’ve got a handle on it enough now that I’m confident in building an app. Plus there’s a new game in the works. I haven’t started anything yet, but I’ve been working out a few of the ideas I’ve had. I’ll only say that it’s not going to be a puzzle game
I was at Mochis first Flash Gaming Summit on March 22nd. It was my first time being out to San Fransico and on the west coast. It was a great experience and I got a lot out of it.
The Flash Gaming Summit had people from all over the online gaming spectrum. I met people who run game portals, make games on facebook, create dev tools, and also fellow Flash game developers. If you want to learn more about what went on there, you can visit the Flash Gaming Summit site.
The best part of it was the people I met. Like being able to meet the people who make the games I enjoyed playing. I met:
- Josh Larsen, maker of Whiteboard Tower Defense
- John Cooney, maker of Achievement Unlocked
- Gregory Weir, maker of The Majesty of Colors
- Joey Betz, maker of Monkey Metric
- Hero Interactive, of Bubble Tanks 2
- Tyler Glaiel, maker of Closure
- Brad Borne, maker of Fancy Pants
It was great getting to talk to them about the games they made, what inspires them, and how they develop their ideas.
I also got to meet some non developers. People who made or manage the sites I visit daily:
- Dan McNeely, founder of Armor Games
- Mike aka Tasselfoot, admin on flashflashrevolution.com
- Greg, Allison, and Emily, of Kongregate
- Ira Willey, founder of Addicting Games and OneMoreLevel
I had a blast talking to everyone. To talk with like-minded people, especially about the things I enjoy, was worth the whole trip.
